Electric Program

What is the Michigan Schools Energy Cooperative (MISEC)?
The Michigan Schools Energy Cooperative (MISEC), a Non-Profit, was organized in 1997 by MSBO, MASA, MAISD, MASB and MCEA to aggregate the Stateís individual school districts for energy procurement.

Unlike traditional Supplier relationshipís, MISEC is your energy partner providing a full range of integrated energy management services. Our goal is to provide you with the lowest cost, reliable supply of natural gas and electricity. We will also provide accurate, un-biased information regarding your energy purchasing.

What changes are required with our electric meter?
Once an account is enrolled in the electric program, the utility will exchange the existing meter with one that is compatible with the electric program requirements. There is no cost to the customer or power outage required for this work to be completed.

What is the consolidated invoice provided by MISEC?
MISEC will provide the District with a consolidated invoice showing all of the participating facilities, their usage and the amount due. The District would then pay MISEC the amount due and in turn MISEC will pay all of the applicable invoices. This consolidated invoice eliminates the day-to-day payment of numerous utility and electric supplier invoices.

Deposit Requirement:
MISEC requires a ìdepositî equal to one month usage due to the fact that our electric supplier(s) and the utilities require payment within 15 and 21 days, respectfully, of receipt of their invoice. This ìdepositî will be fully refundable should your district decide to discontinue participation in the MISEC program.

How do I know how much my district is saving on the MISEC Electric Program?
MISEC will provide your districts monthly savings on each consolidated invoice. In addition, a savings report will be provided annually and as requested.

Who is the "watchdog" over MISEC?
MISEC is audited annually by Plante & Moran, LLP. A copy of the audit will be provided upon request.
